SWATH box office

The Universal tentpole -- earning a B CinemaScore -- will easily win the domestic box office race with a better-than-expected $55 million; Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" gets off to a stellar start in the U.K. with $3.4 million, handily beating "Snow White."

Universal's latest summer event pic Snow White and the Huntsman is overperforming in its domestic launch, grossing $20.3 million on Friday for a projected weekend opening north of $55 million.

If Snow White -- starring Charlize Theron, Kristin Stewart and Liam Hemsworth -- stays on course, it will be the first of Hollywood's recent fairy tale re-tellings to work with moviegoers. The film also could mark a much-needed win for Universal after big-budget stumple Battleship and recent comedy miss The Five-Year Engagement.

Box office observers will be watching carefully to see whether Snow White's B CinemaScore affects word of mouth over the weekend.

Snow White wasn't a cheap proposition, costing at least $170 million to produce, excluding a six-figure marketing spend. It also will need to do good business overseas, where it is opening in 45 markets this weekend.

Based on initial numbers, Universal is predicting a $39.3 million international opening for Snow White, higher than two other female-skewing properites, The Hunger Games ($38.7 million) and the first Twilight ($30 million). Snow White opened No. 1 in 30 of the markets, and is doing particularly well in Latin America and Asia, including placing No. 1 in Mexico with $1 million on Friday.

Snow White, however, is getting trounched in the U.K. by Ridley Scott's 3D sci-fi action tentpole Prometheus, which 20th Century Fox is opening in 15 foreign markets a week ahead of its June 8 North American launch.

New Rob Interview with MTV UK from Cosmopolis London Press Junket

Rob confirms he wont be at the MTV Awards this year and also what will Kristen do if they win?

Robert Pattinson Says Kristen Stewart Might Be... by veronicaspuffy

There are only a few more hours left to cast your votes for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, and should you need more reason to throw your support behind four-time Best Kiss nominees and three-time winners Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, we have one for you, courtesy of Pattinson himself.

When MTV UK recently caught up with the actor during an early press day for his highly anticipated film "Cosmopolis," we asked him about his chances in bringing home a fourth golden popcorn trophy for his smooch with Stewart in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" and if they have plans to make a creative acceptance speech if they win.

"I don't know," he said. "We didn't get nominated for anything else. I'm like, 'Grr,' " Pattinson joked about their film's two nominations this year, versus the multiple nominations in previous years. "[I won't be there because] I have to be in Toronto for 'Cosmopolis,' but I think Kristen is going so she's going to kiss herself if she wins."

When asked about the specifics of Stewart's plans for kissing herself, Pattinson didn't want to give too much away.

"People have to vote [to see]!" he said with a laugh.

So what does Pattinson's leading lady think of their chances for winning the award a fourth year in a row?

"You know, you can't have too many expectations going into that," Stewart told MTV News recently during her appearance at our Sneak Peek Week Q&A for "Snow White and the Huntsman." "There's a lot going into that, just to be there is a huge honor.

The 22-year-old actress went on to say that she is still surprised to have taken home any Best Kiss awards, given the very memorable onscreen kisses performed by previous winners.

"When I was young, the [Best] Kiss was always a big thing, that's why winning always [seemed impossible]. I think the 'Spider-Man' [kiss] I always imagined, 'You're never going to be able [to live up to that] and then the 'Notebook' [kiss] happened and then [I thought], 'I'm never going to try and top those.' "

New Kristen Interview with The Independent from Cannes

“I am so self-aware, so self-conscious,” she says. “There are people in life who lead the way and run after things, and then there are the observers and followers. I am one of those people; I’d be latching onto the leader. That’s why I love to play characters that are so completely different to myself.”

In Snow White, Stewart says she loves the fact “you have a kick-ass heroine, someone who can fight, yet she’s not a strange girl pretending to be a boy. I always wanted to do something physically challenging and this was it.”

“I always say follow the heart and things usually wind up where you want to be.” Her attitude to what she wants is perhaps best summed up when she is asked about her On the Road character, Marylou, who Stewart says is a heroine of hers; it was a favourite book of hers as a teenager. ” I love her spirit,” she enthuses. “She’s so genuine, so herself. She refuses to be a commodity and I love that.”

New Video from Cosmopolis Portugal Press Conference

What was his most difficult scene to film/to act?

Robs answer at 1.45: “There was a scene that made me incredibly uncomfortable, the rave scene. That was the only scene where there were a lot of extras around that could actually hear what I was saying. They were pretending to rave, but it was totally silent, I think I had like 2 lines, and when youre pretending to speak over music youve really got to shout it. So I was like “YES” and every single person is just, over hearing that, thinking what is this film, so weird. Yeah that was a little bit nerve wracking. But its one of my favourtie scenes in the movie.”

New Kristen Interview with LA Times

With “East of Eden” often mentioned by Kristen Stewart among her favorite reads, the actress’ fans have long clamored for the “Twilight” heroine to star in a reboot of the John Steinbeck classic.

That reboot, announced more than three years ago with Tom Hooper and Imagine Entertainment, has been perpetually stuck in development. But Stewart still feels strongly that the Cain-and-Abel story — of course originally brought to celluloid by Elia Kazan and James Dean in 1955 — could use another go-round on the big screen.

“Obviously ‘East of Eden’ is a really great movie,” Stewart told 24 Frames when asked what book she’d most like to see adapted to film. “But it’s the last chapter of the … book.”

New Rob Interview from Cosmopolis Paris Screening

So Rob where do you feel the best, in Cannes or in Paris?
Rob: I mean I've never been to cannes outside the Festival so I'm not sure how I would be.

The movie might be a tad complicated for the fans.
Rob: yeah, I mean, I think it's funny when people scream before the screening and it's such a strange movie. But I know that out of every audience, I hope that one or two people will really connect to it.

What are you plans for this summer? Ibiza, St Bart or le lavandoou
Rob: No, I haven't worked in ages. I need to start working soon. I really wanna start working.

Sarah Gadon Talks about Rob and Cosmopolis

What is Cronenberg’s involvement? I’ve heard there are no rehearsals.
SG: No, we don’t do rehearsals. But David does a very thorough blocking of the scene before going to camera. It’s like a mini rehearsal where we work out the movement of the scene. But I feel less rehearsal added to the project. There’s so much secrecy, security and mythology surrounding Rob as a person that when you arrive on set and do your scene with this actor and never spend any significant time with them, it feels bizarre. That’s what our characters are like: Two people who don’t know anything about each other. They never seem to find each other and when they’re together and it’s like they’re speaking two different languages. And then they both disappear into the city.

So what commentary does the film make? The book is pretty condemning—
SG: Yeah! This is for the one percent descending from their yacht at Cannes to watch a film that points to a gap in society. I think the movie lends itself to a meta-critique of the film industry. Take casting someone like Rob at the centre of this film. He is the symbol of pop cinema, the symbol of capitalism. The film is about the breakdown of that.

And his character’s so hubristic. He tries to tap into this technological system that’s supposed to order the world around him, the dollars and cents of his life, the free market. And we watch it all fall—really hard.
SG: When I read critiques of the film, I think people miss what you’re saying. They ask, “Why is Robert Pattinson in this movie?” Even for David to cast somebody like me who is blonde, blue-eyed and twenty-five and normally reads scripts where I am hyper sexualized or solve everyone’s problem with my smile. He cast me as a character who will not allow her romantic lead to project anything onto her that she will absorb, it’s kind of unheard of. And there is a difference between [Elise] in the book and the Elise that David wrote. In that the last scene between Eric and Elise, in the book, Eric projects onto an accepting Elise. For me, the best part about ending their narrative in the restaurant, in the movie, is that she ends it and she’s out and that’s it.

David Cronenberg Talks About Rob and 'Map To The Stars'

The British actor Pattinson looks set to become the renowned sci-fi horror director’s new muse. Playing the financial genius Eric Packer – who heads across New York in a white limousine in search of a hair cut – he appears in every scene of Cronenberg’s new film Cosmopolis, which competed for the Palme D’or at the years Cannes Film Festival and opens in UK cinemas June 15.

Cronenberg today described the star of the Twilight franchise as “a beautiful actor who often responds to scenes without even realising what he’s doing. That’s why I love him.”

Pattinson will perform opposite Viggo Mortensen, best known for his role as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings franchise, who starred in Cronenberg’s A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. The two are regarded as creative partners.

Speaking in London today, the Canadian director of The Fly, Scanners and eXistenz said: “There’s a brilliant script by an author friend of mine called Bruce Wagner. All of his books are fantastic. I tried to get this script off the ground five years ago, but I couldn’t get it made. In a way its like Cosmopolis; it’s a difficult sell. It’s edgy in a nasty, disturbing way. It has emotion, but it has a weird emotion like Cosmopolis.

“It’s hard to make difficult movies. When you have very credible actors who bring a lot of attention like Viggo Mortensen and Robert Pattinson, you think it would be easy to raise 15 million dollars, but it’s not.”

“She encompasses all of those things that we know her to be,” Stewart told OnTheRedCarpet.com regarding her character. “She’s got the connection to the Earth and the animals and she’s very selfless and compassionate. But I think what was cool about what we did was we made it super-human.” ”It wasn’t a fairy tale in that she was like, not real. No one’s purely selfless,” she added. “So it was about putting her in a real world and like, challenging her to be those things in a really dangerous environment.”

New Kristen Interview with Irish Times

JUST DON’T SAY anything bad about Kristen Stewart. Seriously. The first time I met Ms Stewart she was 17 years old. She had just finished shooting Twilight and was intimidated, even before the film’s release, by the burgeoning popularity of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire saga.

“I’m, like, Little Miss Indie film,” she told me. “I really wanted to work with Catherine Hardwicke, the director. And I presumed Twilight was just another off-centre, cool little film for a very devoted, quite exclusive fan base.”

The Twi-hard fanbase soon set her straight, but she was taking it well: “Girls, especially at a certain age, can be bullies. But I understand why. I understand their covetousness. Edward is such an icon. All I can say is ‘sorry’ to anyone who thinks I’m not Bella Swan. Really. I’m sorry for stealing Edward. I completely relate to that. But I love the book just as much as they do and share their protective urges toward it.”

Kristen Talks to E! About Charlize and Babysitting

Move over, Robert Pattinson—Charlize Theron is taking your place!

No, Kristen Stewart is not replacing her real-life Twilight boyfriend with her Snow White and the Huntsman costar, but…

K. Stew, 22, really digs Ms. Theron, 36.

"I want to stand on my tippy toes when I'm around her," Stewart told me the other day when she and SWATH costar Sam Claflin appeared at the MTV Sneak Peek of their new fairy-tale action flick. "She's mad intimidating. Most people would make you feel really bad about yourself when you're intimidated by them, but I feel so great around."

Claflin gushed, "She makes you step up your game."

Theron is also, well, super cool.

"She's awesome," Stewart said. "And she's hilarious—she's so fast and quick."

Even with all this lovin', Stewart and Claflin aren't going to be babysitting for the new mom anytime soon.

"I don't think she should trust either of us," Stewart said.

Claflin cracked, "I don't think she'd trust us with the kid or even her dogs."
