The Canal + program is announced a meeting with Walter Salles (director of On the Road ), Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, and Sam Riley, 20 May next, on the channel Canal +, at 11:35 on the TV show 'Rencontre de cinéma'. It will be 20 minutes long.

Cult. In 1957, Jack Kerouac changed the world of literature with "On The Road", the cult book of the Beat Generation. Many filmmakers tried to adapt the autobiographical diary of this writer who travelled accros the US by his own means.
Francis Ford Coppola had a tough time but he did not give up: He went to Brazil to find Walter Salles and entrusted the project to him so he could produce it.
After filming the journey of Che Guevara accros Latin America on his motorcycle ("The Motorcycle Diaries" who was apart of the Official Selection in Cannes in 2004), Salles started looking for informations about the book. The cream of the crop of the new generation of actors, including Kristen Stewart who changed register after "Twilight", is playing a young woman in search of freedom. "On The Road is a universal story about child immigrants who don't know how to fit in the Puritan culture of America in the 1950s," the director said.
"It's also the end of the road when the conquest of the west comes to an end, and with it, a part of the American dream. In our time, we can have the feeling that we've already done and saw everything. That there's nothing left to decode..."
Emblematic. "I discovered 'On The Road' when I was a teenager in brazil, under the military dictatorship," the director of 'Central Do Brasil' added. "The novel wasn't translated yet, so I read it in English. The book was passed from hand to hand at University. To this day, it's still an emblematic work for me: the Beat Generation redefined the way people used to live or how they wanted to live." It seemed impossible and yet, Walter Salles won the challenge: This wonderful movie is swept by an irresistible wind of freedom, that may not leave the croisette indifferent.

The director, Bill Condon, has said to me several times, as recently as a week ago, that it is a particular point of pride for him, given his overall body of work, to have taken into production a 100 day shooting scheduled movie, a giant movie that would be released as two parts, and to have come out the other side of that and to not have a single day to not have a single scene directed by him in the so-called main unit . . . re-shot. And that includes what’s to come. Not one shot directed by the main unit over the course of 100 days on these two Breaking Dawn movies has needed to be re-shot or will need to be re-shot . . . Nothing that he directed has been re-shot or will be re-shot, which then leads us to be able to say that most of [what’s to come] is stuff that’s from the second unit," Jack Morrissey said.
"On Breaking Dawn, for everything that was to the second unit director . . . was drawn out, storyboarded, developed and agreed to, so everybody knew exactly what those shots were meant to look like once they were executed . . . The coming additional photography is stuff that was conceived, developed, and was to be executed by the second unit during the period of principal photography. For various reasons, it was not executed by the second unit . . . So, now, because it was not executed by the second unit, up you all go . . . to get what should’ve been gotten [during] principal photography. It’s just that simple.”

This year, he’ll open two summer blockbusters, reprising the thunder god in Whedon’s The Avengers -- alongside a dizzying cast of costars (such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans) -- and starring in a darkly gothic fairytale retelling, Snow White and the Huntsman. He drops a mention of being invited to a personal preview screening of the latter with his costars: “And Charlize and Kristen and I all could not believe how amazing it was.” He doesn’t mention the surnames, Theron and Stewart, because he doesn’t have to.

Nick Stroller, Five-Year Engagement Director, Talks About Wanting to Work with Rob and Kristen in a Romantic Comedy
Celebuzz sat down with The Five-Year Engagement director and writer Nicholas Stoller to talk about his new comedy.
The Five-Year Engagement hits theaters on April 27, and for the first time, Nick said he doesn’t have another project lined up at the moment.
Stoller and I started discussing actors he should work with, so obviously I suggested Kristen Stewart. You know I’m pushing for her to do a romantic comedy!
“Kristen Stewart, yeah she could be really funny,” Nick said in agreement. “That’s a really good idea. We’ll get both her and Robert [Pattinson].”
No complaints here! Stewart told me back at the junket for Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 she would “would die” to work with Rob again post-Twilight, and that she would be up to do a romantic comedy.
Stoller, Segel, Stewart, Pattinson…sounds like a dream team to me! What do you guys think?

Paulo Branco, Cosmopolis Producer, Talks About Rob and the Movie Some More
The tv piece starts by describing the movie's story. In it its mentioned that “Robert Pattinson gets away from the teen themes represented by the Twi Saga to be the lead actor of Cosmopolis”.
Then Paulo Branco starts to talk telling that “(Rob) in the beginning refused the role because he had a bit of fear of the challenge imposed by this movie. In this movie he is, from beginning to end, in all photograms (scenes)”
It was Paulo Brancos idea of adapting this book to the cinema and Cronenberg was the 1st director that the producer thought of.
“It took me a while to get to him because, although I'd already met him, I didn't know him that well. At first he (Cronenberg) said it was a bit difficult to do it because of other projects he had going. I gave him he book and 24 hours later he phoned me saying “Paulo this is for me! It is the ideal book for me to adapt. Let's do this”
The piece continues by saying that Cosmopolis is one of the movies in competition for the Palme d'Or in Cannes. More than a win, the producer considers the presence of the movie at Cannes as a showroom for the movie to the world.

"The difficulties we encountered were mainly due to the complexity of the project and the need to make the film with a small budget [U.S. $ 25 million]. But the limits have worked in favor of the film." Other items helped production, as the passion of the actors for the original book. That´s the case of Kristen Stewart, who lives Marylou. "'On the Road' was one of her favorite book," says Salles, who directed the star of "Twilight" with no problem, even in scenes of total nudity. "There is a quality of freedom in Marylou, a desire for experimentation and Kristen knew well." Sam Riley, who plays Kerouac's alter ego, Sal Paradise, and Garrett Hedlund (his friend Dean Moriarty), embarked soon after. But who was impressive was Viggo Mortensen in the role of William Burroughs. "He came ready to the set, with the clothes of the character, the typewriter and the gun he used in 1949. It was an impressive transformation."
Walter Salles talks about casting the main actors.
"Most of the cast was invited early in the process, five years ago. Kirsten Dunst was the first person I met to talk about Camille. Garrett Hedlund appeared in audition, coming directly from the farm where he lived in Minnesota, near Fargo, the city where the Coen brothers filmed. He brought a text about the trip he had made. It was as remarkable as his test. Sam Riley also did a great test after I've seen Control , and I was amazed by his performance as Ian Curtis. Kristen Stewart was invited almost as soon as Kirsten Dunst, thanks to Gustavo Santaolalla and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who had seen the first cut of the film by Sean Penn, Into the Wild . They said that we could stop looking for Marylou, because we just saw a 16 years old girl that was perfect for the role. I remember I had to make a note of Kristen´s name at that time."

Paulo Branco talks Rob's visit to Portugal - Premiere on May 28th

Guimarães – Capital Europeia da Cultura will have an unprecedented turnout on May 28, when the English actor Robert Pattinson, idol of millions of movie fans, will attend the premiere of 'Cosmopolis', directed by David Cronenberg and produced by Paulo Branco, days after learning if they won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Major flooding will certainly happen on May 29, in the two 'Cosmopolis' screenings in Lisbon. One will take place at Centro Cultural de Belém, while the other will be open to the public, and Pattinson (and other actors, including Paul Giamatti) will be with the fans. The 'team' also includes the filmmaker David Cronenberg and writer Don DeLillo, whose novel is the basis of the film.
"I hope the fans are more civilized here," said Paulo Baulo to the CM, acknowledging that Pattinson's stay in "Cannes is a concern," since his last time in the French city the reactions were described as Beatles-like.
In the film which opens in 30 theaters on May 31st, Pattinson plays a character very different from the vampire 'Edward Cullen', star of Twilight. This is the odyssey of a Manhattan mogul that runs through the city (although shooting has taken place in Toronto and not in New York) in his limousine.
'Cosmopolis' wants the Palme d'Or
'Cosmopolis' is in a list of candidates for the Palme d'Or in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival, revealed yesterday. According to Paulo Branco, producer of the film where David Cronenberg has made a metaphor about the capitalism crisis, to find yourself in this list "will only provide visibility throughout the world" to the project. Besides the 11th film produced by Branco candidate for the top prize at Cannes, the festival which runs from May 16-27 features works by Walter Salles ("On the Road"), Leos Carax ("Holy Motors"), Michael Haneke ("Amour") and Wes Anderson, whose 'Moonrise Kingdom' opens an exhibition.

Chris Hemsworth Talks About Working with Kristen with Glamour UK
Chris Hemsworth has opened up about working with Kristen Stewart on Snow White And The Huntsman at the UK premiere of Avengers Assemble in London.
When asked what it was like to star opposite Stewart, Hemsworth said: "It was great! [She showed a] great amount of integrity and commitment to that role, and I think we all came into it knowing what the director Rupert was capable of, and we knew that if we did our bit it would be something special. So far, the film looks pretty impressive."

Reactions to Rob and Kristen Heading to Cannes Film Festival

This morning, the official 2012 Cannes Film Festival Program was announced in Paris.
The news that created most excitement with the general public was probably that "Twilight" and real-life couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will attend the festival.
The couple won't appear together in one movie, however. Pattinson is starring in David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis", while Stewart is part of the cast on "On the Road" by Walter Salles.
Of course, the next big question is: at what date will Pattinson and Stewart be in Cannes? Unfortunately, that won't be known until the festival schedule is published - and that may take a few more weeks!
What is already known: There will be a public red carpet ceremony where Pattinson and Stewart appear. However, the screening of their movies won't be open to the public.

What do Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Zac Efron and Shia LaBeouf all have in common? Speak up, I can't hear you above all that high-pitched screaming. If what you're trying to say is that they're all set to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival next month as their new films premiere in Competition, then you'd be right. Cue every Cannes-bound journalist throwing a set of earplugs into their luggage.
Of course, it's not as if those august Cannes selectors have acquiesced to the Twilight generation. Robert Pattinson's multibillionaire Eric Packer doesn't go on and on about wanting a haircut in this new Cosmopolis trailer — yes, another new Cosmopolis trailer. This a more philosophical trailer, with cosmic statements such as "I smell sex all over you." Pattinson's reaction to that is priceless.
Now, this latest Cosmopolis trailer also offers a better look at the various supporting actors in the film. The English Patient / Hidden's Juliette Binoche looks particularly impressive.

One of Robert Pattinson's best career moves was accepting the role of Eric Packer in "Cosmopolis."
It's yet another shift away from the sparkly vampire who dazzles those around him. The role is gritty, sexy and no doubt allowed Pattinson to show off his acting chops. Typecast no more, critics. The "Twilight" actor is getting as far away from Forks as possible.
