Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner owe their careers to the “Twilight” series just as much as Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson owe theirs to the world of “Harry Potter.” For all of them, those roles will always be a part of their lives and that is just what 20th Century Fox is banking on in the new movie “Water for Elephants.”
The film, due out in New York this April, is based on the popular book of the same name by author Sara Gruen. Today, the studio behind it, released the most recent trailer for the circus drama and the focus was all on Pattinson. Set during the Great Depression, the actor plays a recently orphaned veterinarian student, who after a personal tragedy runs off and joins the circus. It is there he befriends the enchanting star of the show, who also happens to be married to the owner.
The new trailer gives audiences the clearest picture yet of what to expect from the movie which also stars Academy Award winners Resse Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. The buzz has been high on this drama from the start due to its high-profile cast and after seeing the trailer it is clear the studio made the right call with casting the trio.
Although while Pattison has found success with the “Twilight” series, he has yet to show he can open a movie on just his name. “Remember Me,” his only feature outside of the teen franchise failed to find an audience and raised questions about his career viability. Then again “Elephants” is a different caliber of film altogether and success here could really boost his stock among non-teen driven projects.
You can judge for yourself when “Water for Elephants” arrives locally in theaters April 22, 2011.
