Ted Casablanca’s Bitch-back! Paparazzi Control!

Dear Ted:
I know many have come to K.Stew’s defense, saying the paps went too far and they should let her have privacy, but I have to disagree. I mean you can Google “celebs on their balconies” and get plenty of pics. It’s not like this is the first time this has been done, so why do people always get so horrified when it happens to her? When it comes to paps, no one gets special treatment. Everyone suffers their presence. Plenty of other young, just-want-to-act stars handle the situation pretty well. Like our beloved R.Pattz. If anyone in the Twi cast gets more quality time with the paps than Kristen, it’s him. I’ve never seen him let loose the finger. He’s so simple about it. Gets where he need to go, and gets home. Mission accomplished. Of course it’s annoying, but like the perfect star, he brushes it off ’cause he knows what he wants and what he’s doing, and he’s not gonna let all that distract him.

One Site’s Toxic Take on Kristen Stewart Controversy

There’s silly, and then there’s offensive.

Robert Pattinson is doing his best not to be seen with his controversial Twilight costar Kristen Stewart!” shouts Showbiz Spy.

Explain.

“The hunky British actor… is said to be worried that his cozy friendship with Kristen will affect his career — because she keeps making silly comments to the media.”

Gossip Cop has a hunch where this is going, and it’s ugly.

“Stewart caused controversy earlier this month when she declared she feels ‘raped’ by the paparazzi,” continues the site, adding, “[Stewart also] lashed out at a photographer; demanded that her fans stop taking her picture; and claimed that she has a ‘crazy’ stalker.”

The upshot, explains Showbiz Spy, is that Pattinson is now “worried that being associated with Kristen will harm his career.”

Stop here.

There’s been a lot of discussion about Stewart’s remarks in British Elle magazine regarding paparazzi intrusiveness. Her invocation of ‘rape’ was misguided. She was criticized, and she
apologized for it.

Some people believed the backlash was unfair, as Stewart was exaggerating to make her point and has done work on behalf of (actual) sexual assault victims in the past.

Some people believed her intentions didn’t matter, and that ‘rape’ is such an emotionally and psychologically loaded word, it shouldn’t be used to describe non-violent situations.

There are reasons to hear arguments from both sides.

But to pick up the (mostly over) rape controversy and hammer it as a wedge between Stewart and Pattinson is just insulting.

Consider what Showbiz Spy suggests.

Essentially, that Robert Pattinson wants to distance himself from Kristen Stewart because she’s vocalized her frustrations about paparazzi targeting and unhinged stalkers.

What the site doesn’t mention is the charming time it
placed a photo bounty on their heads.

That’s right: Showbiz Spy encouraged photographers to descend on Stewart and Pattinson. It monetized the invasion of privacy. It helped to cultivate Stewart’s discomfort and distress.

When she complained about that aspect of her life — whether or not with a poor choice of words — it was sites like Showbiz Spy whose “silly comments” made for trouble.

The article then shows just how carelessly it was thrown together by attempting to tie its warped theory to the
debunked rumor that Pattinson told cast and crew on the set of Water For Elephants that he’s single, which itself is part of the basis for fictional sparks between Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

“He’ll do the Eclipse premieres and then focus 100 percent on Reese and Water for Elephants,” explains a Showbiz Spy “insider.” “It’s like entering a whole new world for him.”

Someone hand this “insider” the 2010 Golden Shovel Award for stacking an impressive pile of… well, something elephants are known to leave in their path.

Pattinson will promote Eclipse with Stewart when that movie opens and then “focus” on Witherspoon and their film afterwards?

Wow, that sounds like what every actor does in every situation.

Like a dog that believes its owner has left forever whenever he steps out for groceries, Showbiz Spy has serious trouble with perspective. It struggles to make sense of a world in which sometimes two or three things happen in succession.

If Robert Pattinson promotes Water for Elephants, he’s not doing so because Kristen Stewart made a questionable comment to Elle magazine.

Two events. Unrelated.

Or maybe you could believe the site’s sources and theories. After all…

Showbiz Spy claimed Stewart and Pattinson were warring because of her “possessive nature.”
Wrong.

It said they were looking for a house in London together.
Wrong.

It floated a bizarre story that Stewart had “denied” Pattinson used steroids.
Wrong.

The site helped spread rumors that Pattinson was with Kelly Blakewell.
Wrong.

On second thought, maybe you shouldn’t.

But while Showbiz Spy is usually cited on Gossip Cop for being inaccurate and sloppy when it comes to celebs like Pattinson and Stewart, today the site managed to stoop lower.

It lay blame on the victim of a climate it helped create.

MTV Movie Awards Host Aziz Ansari Says Yes to Twlight, No to Harry Potter

OMG Alert!

MTV Movie Awards host Aziz Ansari hearts Twilight. However, he admits he hasn’t been a fan for that long…

“You know, I had never seen the movies, but I watched them as soon as they asked me to host,” says Ansari, who plays Tom Haverford on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. “They are fun movies. Yeah, I’m into it.”

He’s also into meeting Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at the awards on Sunday. “Oh, my god! I’m so excited,” Ansari said. “But I heard each of them has like 50 bodyguards so I won’t even be able to see them.”

And diehard Twilight fans will be pleased to hear that Ansari hasn’t bothered taking a look at the Harry Potter movies. “I was going to try watching them because I’ve never seen them before but there’s like seven movies,” he said in mock horror. “I don’t want to watch seven movies. That’s too many.”

Ansari is also looking forward to saying hello to Tom Cruise. “I haven’t worked with him since Cocktail,” he cracked. “I was a little brown baby that was in the background of one of the scenes. Me and Tom haven’t seen each other since then. I was an infant then. It would be cool to catch up.”

Meanwhile, Chef John DeLucie of New York’s Waverly Inn and The Lion restaurants gave a taste of what guests will be feasting on at the show’s V.I.P. afterparty, including sliders, mac ‘n’ cheese and shortribs. But what am I looking forward to the most? Desserts like chocolate bacon cupcakes, cheesecake in a jar and mouse shooters!

Wonder if R.Pattz will want to split one of those cupcakes with me.

Interview With Eclipse's Composer

The Soundrack Examiner has an exclusive interview with the composer of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse orginal score, Howard Shore.

How did you come into working on the ECLIPSE project?
They just asked me to work on it, and that was pretty much it. It really was as simple as that.
With NEW MOON, Alexandre Desplat admitted that he ignored Carter Burwell’s score for TWILIGHT and did not even see the first film.

Did you follow that same mentality with ECLIPSE?
No, I actually did some pretty thorough research. I like to read a lot, and I knew the story. I was really interested in it from a dramatic point of view. And I felt that the story expands with the third film. I did the research and fell into a very interesting creative process. It was a pleasure to work on.
And I found both guys’ scores to be very good. Carter’s was such a good score, and Alexandre’s was just beautiful.

How was the experience tracking for songs through ECLIPSE?
I worked with Emily Haines and James Shaw of the group Metric, and Metric was a group that I had researched and felt that they would be good collaborators for this project. I asked them if they would be interested in writing with me, and the three of us created the song “Eclipse (All Yours).” I actually like the collaboration of working with different artists.

And that is something that you see less and less of in Hollywood. Back during the heyday of James Bond, you would almost always see a composer co-write the movie’s theme song.
Yes, yes! I enjoy that very much.

Listening to the ECLIPSE score, I noticed that you made Jacob the primary musical character, while using Bella as a sort of surrogate, bookending character.
He’s an important part of the story, and his character is an important element in the arc of the story. The timing was right in the third part to work with Jacob’s feelings and the dramatic arc of Jacob’s story. The Jacob character wasn’t really developed until the third film. It just felt right.

Since there were no previously established themes for Jacob, Victoria, Rosalie, Jasper, and Jane, did you feel any weight to present them in a proper fashion?
Definitely. I write how I feel where the emphasis is. And the emphasis for this part of the story might have been different from what had come before. So it just felt right for me to focus on and emphasize certain themes in the story.

Do you find yourself becoming emotionally invested in scoring these extremely dramatic films?
I do, I do become emotionally invested. I want to write and feel the drama. Music is essentially an emotional language, so you want to feel something from the relationships and build music based on those feelings.

And that’s why I think ECLIPSE is right up your alley as a perfect project.
Yeah, it is. Film music is essentially the essence of what it is, writing to the emotional impact of the story.
It seems very important to you to make your music available to the public, and that is something you do not see many composers strive for. What is the rationale behind releasing things like the complete scores for THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and the HOWARD SHORE: COLLECTOR’S EDITION, and things like that?
It is important to me. I like to do good versions in the print medium and complete recordings, and full CD releases of scores; also archival releases of scores, rarities CDs. There is actually a rarities CD we are releasing with the Doug Adams book, MUSIC OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS. I do enjoy working on all aspects of that music. I like the details, yes.
